A new vertical farming facility in Florence, Kentucky, will open this week. The facility is owned by 80 Acres Farms, a company that grows produce indoors in a climate-controlled environment without using pesticides. The leafy greens grown at the facility will be available at Kroger and other grocery stores in multiple states, including Cincinnati, Nashville, Indianapolis, and Atlanta.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear toured the facility on Tuesday and expressed his pride in the project. "You and we are truly leading in the future of agriculture right here," Beshear said. "And we're doing it in a way that helps our Northern Kentucky and probably a few Ohio families, too."
The new facility is a $95 million investment and will create 125 jobs. It is the company's third location, and 80 Acres Farms has plans to open more facilities in the future.
Vertical farming is a growing trend in the agriculture industry. It offers several advantages over traditional farming, including the ability to grow produce year-round, regardless of the weather, and the use of less water and land.
The opening of the new 80 Acres Farms facility is a sign of the growing interest in vertical farming and its potential to help meet the increasing demand for food.
